SUSTAINABILITY
House of RoRo takes care in how and what we produce.
Our production is local to the market, made in small batches using local and certified materials to guarantee both safety and minimal environmental impact.
The furniture is designed to be shipped flatpack, reducing both packaging and carbon footprint.
All furniture is primarily made of birch plywood which proves to be the most durable and versatile material for children’s furniture.
The plywood we use is FSC and TSCA certified. TSCA certification regulates the formaldehyde emission, while the FSC certification ensures materials come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits.
Leftovers from the plywood cuts are transformed into color samples shaped like small wood pull toys or puzzles.
For our textile accessories we source vintage or use deadstock fabrics kindly offered by our friends at Elitis France.
All of our packaging is recyclable. No plastics used.
We understand the complexity of an entirely sustainable business model and are strong believers of buy less, buy better so the items we purchase can live many lives.
FINISHES & COLOR PALETTE
Audrey Louise Reynolds, dubbed the fashion worlds artisanal dyer by the New York Times, developed a series of wood stains for House of RoRo, made from all natural pigments such as mushrooms, flowers, mica, moss, etc. The picture on the right shows a finish made out of chlorociboria, a funky fungus leaning it's color to our "Sea Green".
They are 100% food grade vegan wood stains, handmade from the safest most colorful materials nature has to offer.
These color finishes are applied to the bare plywood before they receive a clear coat per the same standards as the natural finish. There can be some minor variety in the saturation of the finish from one batch to another as these stains are hand made and applied.
The standard clear and color plywood finishes (clear, white, yellow and red) are food contact compliant, Greenguard Gold certified, 0% VOC and meet Toy standard EN 71-3. More info here.
We have an extensive color palette and expect it to change seasonally but please send us an email should you be looking for a particular color not available on the website.
